Hi and welcome to my Breakaway blog.

In this blog I will write about what is going on during my four months of travelling Down under. The 19th of September I’ll fly off to Bali to start my Breakaway trip with a week of surf lessons. Then heading down to Alice Springs in central Australia, catching an Adventure tour bus up to Darwin and then along the west coast to Perth, continuing by train to Adelaide where I’ll drive by car to Melbourne and Sydney. There I’ll spend Christmas and New Year before I finalize my trip with two weeks in Fiji and head home in mid January.

It all started six years ago when I left Brisbane and my one year of universtiy studies in Australia. I then got the chance to see the Queensland coast and New Zeeland but it has always been a dream to come back and explore the vast countryside of this continent. I also have two very close friends I wanted to visit in Sydney and a dream of spending New Year there.

I asked my company nine months ahead and got approval of a long vacation and leave of abscense during the autumn. I contacted Kilroy Travels already in December and got information. In April I started to do my bookings. Then I worked all summer to save vacation days and money. Rounded up my work and contracts in August and also found a guest to rent my apartment to leave no costs at home. The only money I spend will be on my trip.

I have some fixed dates booked and tours arranged but otherwise, the rest of my trip, will be from guidebooks and recommendations of people I meet. Check out visitor centers and see what the locals has to offer of their hometown. That is how I like to explore the places I visit.

What I’m really looking forward to on my trip is to combine adventure, sports and nature to live my dream to the fullest!
